Our PURPOSE, ‘Spark Courageous Exploration to Inspire a Better World’ guides how we co-create our student, people and community experience. It calls on all of us to be courageous and reflect Alice Smith’s spirit of entrepreneurialism. Most importantly, it empowers our students to inspire the world, ignite change and make an impact as their best self.

The Alice Smith Story

Unable to find a suitable school for her daughter in Kuala Lumpur, Alice Fairfield-Smith, a biology graduate from Harvard University, set up the school in her home in Jalan Eaton. 

In doing so, she founded the first British international school in Malaysia.

In the spirit of Alice Smith, we constantly look to evolve the learning experience of our students, balancing the latest pedagogic research and learning tools, with the deep experience of educators who have been part of Alice Smith for years and those bringing new perspectives.

  • Each child is known and appreciated at Alice Smith.
  • Always encouraged to forge their own paths.
  • To be fearless like Alice Smith in their quest.

Alice Smith School Song

According to the words of our favourite song: ‘Soon there were two, who were joined by a few’.
Alice Smith started a movement with just two people. That single brave act sparked a positive chain reaction. She inspired other families to join her on her journey, creating a nurturing environment for generations of learners and a home away from home for thousands of families.

In that same vein, we keep the Alice Smith spirit alive by building a nurturing community that encourages our students to explore the world with courage, curiosity and compassion.

A new Purpose for Alice Smith

To write this new chapter for Alice Smith, we too must courageously push the boundaries, explore new ideas, and learn, relearn and unlearn.

We do this together by standing on the broad shoulders of our deep heritage; drawing from the collective wisdom and expertise of our team; building on the support from our families; leveraging the flexibility afforded us as a not-for-profit; and gaining inspiration from the vast imagination of our students.

Bound by the same PURPOSE, fired up by a shared ambition to bring Alice Smith further than we have gone before, this playbook is the first flagstone in a dynamic path that we build together as a community.

In the same way we help our students find their own path, we now build a new path together – our own Alice Smith path to light the way for the future.

Featuring Sian May, Head of School, and invited guest speakers from diverse backgrounds, "Pod on Purpose" delves into the minds and journeys of extraordinary individuals who have carved their own unique paths. Through engaging interviews with accomplished alumni, experts, and thought leaders, the podcast aims to:

  • Unravel the concept of purpose: Explore the different ways individuals discover and live their purpose, offering diverse perspectives and inspiring journeys.
